THE CHRISTIAN TWELVE STEP 

RECOVERY PROGRAM & BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION

STEP ONE - I admit that I am powerless over the effects of my separation or Lack of fellowship with God, and that my life has become unmanageable.

 

I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Rom. 7:17-18

 

STEP TWO -  I believe that the power of Jesus Christ, through the working of the Holy Spirit, will restore me to fellowship with God.

 

For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose. Phil.2:13

 

STEP THREE -  I will make a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God.

 

Therefore, I urge you, brethren,in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God which is your reasonable service. Rom.12:1

 

STEP FOUR - I will take a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself.

 

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Lam. 3:40

 

STEP FIVE - I will admit to God, to myself, and to another human being, the exact nature of my wrongs.

 

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

 

STEP SIX - I will become ready to have God remove all of my sins.

 

Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. Luke.17:33

 

STEP SEVEN - I will humbly ask Him to remove my sins.

 

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;  knock and the door will be opened.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks,  the door will be opened. Matt 7:7-8

 

STEP EIGHT - I will make a list of all persons I have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all.

 

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar.  First go and be reconciled to your brother;  then come and offer your gift. Matt. 5:23-24

 

STEP NINE - I will make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

 

Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.  Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy. The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish. There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.  Proverbs 14:9-12

 

STEP TEN - I will continue to take a daily personal inventory, and when I am wrong, I will try to promptly admit it.

 

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly Beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengenance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord Romans 12:17-19

 

STEP ELEVEN - I will seek through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God, praying only for the knowledge of His will for me and the power to carry it out.

 

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.  Psalms 19:14

 

STEP TWELVE - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, I will try to carry this message to others and I will try to practice these principles in all of my affair

               Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore

him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Galatians 6:1
