A Little History About GBF

Grace Bible Fellowship of Antioch was birthed in a local beauty salon named Heavenly Hair Beauty Salon in Antioch, CA., owned and operated by Pastor Kirkland A. Smith and First Lady Qwivander T. Smith.

For one year, God’s favor rained over the weekly bible studies held at the Heavenly Hair Beauty Salon.  Remaining faithful to Christ and to the leadership at Fremont Bible Fellowship, in January 2003 Reverend Kirkland A. Smith, First Lady Qwivander Smith and 30 charter members marched into what is now known as Grace Bible Fellowship of Antioch.

Within a year, they  had an explosive growth in new ministries and the church membership manifested.  By January 2004, Grace Bible Fellowship celebrated the move of God which now serves over 1,000 members each Sunday and countless ministries designed to meet the needs of the  community.

Church Mission

Our mission is to win this world for Christ, not by what we say but by what we do.  To live a life before God that is worthy of our calling; and not conform to the world’s desires as we did when we lived in ignorance.

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do,” 1 Peter 14-15 This will be our witness and our channel for God to bless us !

Reverend Kirkland A. Smith is a native of San Francisco, CA and First Lady Qwivander Smith is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Pastor Smith served as a Deacon and Staff as Minister of Missions, at Fremont Bible Fellowship (now Family Bible Fellowship), in Newark, CA. where Horacio S. Jones is the Senior Pastor.  He also was the Director of the Tri Cities Community Development Center.

He and First Lady Qwivander Smith have been married for over 25 years and together they have five children. Pastor Smith’s ministry focus is to preach the gospel in a “real manner” to “real people”, thus ensuring “real change.”  His heart is for the unsaved and unchurch; and those in the body who needs a jump-start to their intimacy with God through Jesus Christ.

First Lady Qwivander T. Smith also served and received most of her spiritual nourishment at Fremont Bible Fellowship in Fremont, CA. under the leadership of their spiritual parents Pastor Horacio and First Lady Florence Jones.  She is a second time author, actively involved in many aspects of the church and holds the awesome gift of exhortation. She is the founder and visionary of Women of Purpose, Power and Prayer; founder and host of Leading Ladies of Antioch and co-founder of Spiritual Refreshing, a ministry for Pastor’s wives. Lifting up the name of Jesus is dear to her and worshiping God is who she is.

Grace Bible Fellowship of Antioch is a committed church in teaching its members how to develop the Mind of Christ to become committed Christians for the Kingdom of God.  Matthew 6:22.

Together they seek to radically impact God’s Kingdom by ministering side-by-side the Anointed Word of God in love and truth.

CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE

Below are some common Christian doctrine type questions. If you have any further questions please give our Administrative  office a call at (925) 522-2017.

FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

How can Jesus be God and He was born through Mary?

To answer the question effectively, you must first understand the nature of God. God is omniscient (all knowing - Psalm 147:5) and omnipotent (all powerful - Psalm 62:11). He has the ability to do anything, and He never makes a mistake. God had a plan from day one and that was for man to worship Him alone (Psalm 95:6-7). With the sin of Adam and Eve, intimacy and trust was broken between God and Man and someone needed to bridge the gap caused by man's sin (Rom 3:23). Who would pay the penalty for the sin (Rom 6:23) and who could bridge the divide between God and man? Who better than God himself (Col 1:15), but He had to make Himself like man (in the form of - Phil 2:7) for if the sin was done by man the penalty must be paid by the same (Heb 7:25-28). Jesus was God's way of reconciling the world back to Himself (2 Cor 5:18).

Where does it say that we still have to tithe today?

My mother doesn't have to tell me to say "thank you" and "please" anymore, but I still do because the foundation was laid long ago. Jesus encouraged the Pharisees to continue tithe (Luke 11:42); but don't forget other godly expectations. God wants us to give unto Caesar (the government - Matt 22:21) what is due to Caesar and give unto God what you should unto Him. God doesn't need your money for He owns everything (Psalm 24:1); but God does have to give us a gauge of how much to give, for if He didn't give us a starting point (Mal 3:10) and He left it to us, we would only give what we felt we could, and never truly trust Him. It is through our faith in Him and His commandments relative to the tithe that we are able to experience the blessings of God (Eph 3:20). T). The bottom line is we're in a season of freewill (grace) giving, but the tithe is where we begin. God wants us to give with a cheerful heart and out of a love relationship with Him, not because we have to (2 Cor 9:7).

Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?

Truthfully, God understands without storms in your life you would never grow. He also understand without circumstances beyond you, there's no need to trust in a God you can't see; but when the storms of life are tossing you to and fro (here and there) and you are at a point where your ship is about to sink, that's when you call upon the name of the Lord and He answers (Mark 4:37-39). Thereafter, you will never look at that point in your life as a bad thing, but a good thing (Jer 31:3-4), because that is where you met God "for real"! God is able to work all things (bad/negative) together for the good. (Rom 8:28) This is why many non-profits and organizations are in existence now because of challenges which someone faced and now is helping others (ministry of reconciliation) 2 Cor 5:19b.

How do we know for sure there is a heaven and a hell?

Scripture points it out and if God said it (because He has integrity), its truth (Num 23:19). Common sense seems to reason that if God has had man walking this earth for 5,000+ years and for the most part able to live only a century (100 years) at best, there must be somewhere that man would be able to spend the rest of his existence. God wouldn't have placed His soul and breathed the breath of life in man for only a short period, without more eternal plans. God has also promised those that have accepted Him in their lives, eternal fellowship with Him (Col 1:5) and those that are disobedient, eternal punishment (Matt 25:41). We understand the concept of Reward/Punishment. When we work, we get paid, when we are not working, we are not paid; when we work out, we get in shape, when we don't work out, we are out of shape. It boils down to God's integrity: that what He has promised He will do!

Can't there be more than one way to God? Isn't it possible that the Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses and Christians can all be right?

The reality that we face is simple. Christians say there is only one way to God (through Christ - one way to the father through the son - John 14:6); all of the rest of the world religions say you pave your own way to God. So either Christianity is right and everybody else is wrong, or Christianity is wrong, and you pick which religion you like (for their premise to heaven is all the same - certain rules and regulations you must do).

Christianity also teaches you that the way to intimacy with God is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (his son - John 3:17, 1 John 4:9), whereas all the others speak towards religion (do's and don'ts / laws to obey, etc.) in order to appease God.

God appeals to your intellect in that you have been created with choice (will - 1 Cor 10:23), but with every decision there are consequences (Gal 6:7-8); so choose life (1 John 5:11-13, Deut 30:15-19). God declared through John the revelator that there's life only in his Son (1 Jn 5:11-12) and those walking without His son are literally walking dead!

Join Our Family and Become A Member

One of the most important decisions in a person's life is choosing a Church home and  we want to make it easy for you to get to know our family here at GBF.

You may already know of Pastor Smith from a family member or friend, but as a member of  GBF, you’ll come to know him simply as Pastor – in many ways an ordinary guy whose earthly success is directly linked to his willingness to be used by God in extraordinary ways.

View the video to hear a personal message from him that he created exclusively for you.

After each new member participates in and eventually completes the New Members Orientation Training Classes, it is hoped that he or she will become a part of the Church fellowship and the larger community of believers, joining in the great work of building the Kingdom of God.
